Starving Your Doubts to Death

What is doubt? According to Webster's Dictionary, it is to be uncertain about something; to disbelieve, lack of trust, or unbelief.  The Bible says, that without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God, must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

The Book of John 20:18-31 says, Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things unto her.  (19) Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut, where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, came Jesus, and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, "Peace be unto you".  (20) And when he had so said , He showed unto them his hands, and his side.  Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.  (21) Then said Jesus to them again, "Peace be unto you, as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you".  (22) And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them,  ""Receive ye the Holy Ghost",(23) "Whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them, and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained".  (24) But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.  (25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them," Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.  (26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them, then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace be unto you". (27) Then saith he to Thomas, "Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand , and thrust it into my side and be not faithless, but believing. (28) And Thomas answered and said unto Him, "My Lord and my God".  (29) Jesus saith unto him, "Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed, blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

How often have we as God's people, had to deal with uncertainties and doubt when hard trials and tribulations come?  We all may have faltered at one time, or another in our trust in God, and what His word says.  Remember that doubt is the opposite of faith, and is rooted in fear.  Fear in not believing that God is going to do what He said He's going to do for you.  Doubt says to God that you don't trust Him, and that you don't see him as the God of the impossible.  Isaiah 59:1 says, Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened that it cannot save, neither His ear heavy, that He cannot hear. When you ask God for something, you must ask believing and trusting in Him that He's going to do it. Many people have a hard time believing that miracles, and healings are still going on, but the Bible says that the works that I do, ye shall do even greater works, so is Jesus telling a lie, or is it that man does not believe what His word says.  James 1:6-8 says, But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. (7) For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.  (8) A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. The opposite of doubt is faith, which is complete trust or confidence in God.

To starve your doubts you must:

1) Ask in faith
2) Must not waver, but you must be trusting God totally to work it out for you
3) You must walk by faith & not by sight II Cor.5:7-  Even though you can't visibly see it, you see it done in   your mind and heart.  You wait on God to bring it to pass.
4) Must have confidence in God -  I John 5:14-15 says, And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us  (15) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
